Medical Career Choices

You might be looking at the newspapers and fretting over the fact that most places in North America are still losing jobs. There are fewer positions in sectors like industry and transportation, so how can you hope to cover your bills without the help of the Childrens Fitness Tax Credit? Well, with the drop in some sectors comes an increase in others, particularly in the field of medicine. You don't have to be a doctor to take advantage of it, either. Here are some jobs in the medical field that don't require a university degree.

Licensed Practical Nurse

While Registered Nurses must obtain a university degree, licensed practical nurses, or LPNs, receive their training at community and career colleges. LPNs might be tasked to look after a patient that has just undergone otoplasty in Toronto, prepare patients for surgery, check patient vitals, and assist elsewhere in the hospital. While they cannot administer medication, they're still a vital cog in the hospital machine.

Orderly

Orderlies are another medical profession that requires little to no training, so it's a great place to start if you want a medical career now. As an orderly you would be responsible for taking patients to and from treatment rooms, helping to hold down patients who needed to be restrained, and providing backup and security to doctors and nurses as they go about their daily rounds.

Lab Technician

As you can see from the average dentist website, increasingly medical treatments are based on testing, synthesis, and scientific research. As a lab technician at a hospital, your diploma in the sciences will qualify you to perform medical tests, store and handle medical samples, and operate testing machines such as the MRI and the CAT scanner, which helps doctors determine what is wrong with their patient.

Dental Assistant

To be a dentist you need to have a university degree, but to be a dental assistant you simply need to take the appropriate program at a career or technical college. As a dental assistant you will pass tools to dentists during procedures, help apply dental veneers in Mississauga, take x-rays and other samples, and interact with patients to do initial assessments of their needs and problems under the supervision of a dentist.

Alternative Medicine Practitioner

Alternative forms of medicine, such as Edmonton collagen treatments, holistic health, homeopathy, chiropractic medicine, physiotherapy, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture have boomed in popularity in the last decade. Many of these professions require licensing but not a university degree, so you can become one by doing non-college courses or even by getting a job assisting one. Attending a college level program and then getting your certification can even qualify you to open your own practice.
